Bio

I am a contemporary Irish artist, creating detailed, layered, monochromatic paintings inspired my practice of yoga, meditation and a connection with the natural world. My art explores beauty and our connection to nature, reflecting moments of stillness in the everyday landscape. Over a decade of yoga practice, I’ve learned to appreciate the stillness found in the present moment, which now resonates through my art.

My artistic journey began with a love of drawing, a foundation that remains central to my practice. I work primarily in Indian ink, embracing its permanence and fluidity. Which beautifully echoes an important meditation (and life) lesson, “I change the things I cannot accept, and accept the things I cannot change”

I hold a BA in Archaeology & History of Art and an MA in Archaeology from University College Cork, disciplines that started my fascination with humanities connection to our landscapes.

I live in Cork with my husband and dog, drawing in inspiration from the surrounding areas and the spiritual practices that ground my life.

Statement

People often ask “Do you ever use colour?” In short I have, I do and I will. But nothing has ever filled me with as much joy, satisfaction and sense of possibility as the monochromatic palette. In black and white, I can let the subject shine, play with texture, push the contrast - it feels freeing. Black and white creates a sense of clarity, its simplicity creates space in which I can fully explore and express my ideas.

Creating grounds me in the present moment, allowing me to explore the connection with my true-self. It’s a form of meditation, each day is different and my ‘self’ is ever changing and I embrace these shifts in my work. I strive to capture this sense of presence in my work, to capture that moment in time, the pause, the single breath, letting my intuition lead the way. I begin each work with capturing a moment, followed by meticulous planning in sketching, which then leaves me free to play with mark making, texture and contrast. My intuition is the master for the remainder of the process.

Working primarily in Indian ink, its permanence requires commitment, each mark is indelible, each mistake must be embraced and adapted. This parallels the lessons I have learned through yoga and meditation: to embrace imperfection and adapt with grace. Though brushes are one of my main tools, the way in which I use them with the ink, is still deeply connected to my first love - drawing.

Through my work, I hope to invite viewers to pause, to reflect and feel a stillness that mirrors the quiet joy I experience while creating. Whether it invokes tranquility or nostalgia for a place you have never been, I hope that the viewer can find their own moment to simply be.
